Eugene Atget 1857-1927

Here are some Architectural photographs by Eugene Atget that were taken around the turn of the last century, and an excerpt from an interview with Eric Paddock. Check out some of Eric's work at this site... and Atget's below that

Beau Hagberry:
Atget was somewhat eccentric in character and at times imposed his perspective with extraordinary violence… In what way does his pronounced imagery provide a window into his personality?

Erric Paddock:
I don't think there's anything violent about Atget's perspective. On the contrary, I think it tends to be rather passive and uninflected. If one's photographs provide windows into his or her personality, then Atget's photographs indicate to me that he was an observer and a rather gentle orchestrator of his world. Sometimes I also think he was just plain stubborn.
