ART 21

art 21 at PBS. 5 seasons of episodes on art in the twenty first century. I just watched episode 2 which covers the concept of spirituality. The first artist is Ann Hamilton who uses all kinds of mediums such as video, textiles, and photography. The most inspiring was that she made pin-hole cameras, which she places in her mouth. And then by opening her mouth onto her subject the film is exposed to light. Another highlight is a feature on James Turrell, who if you don't know is quite famous for his work with light. He has been working on a project called the Roden Crader for almost 40 years. It sits in the middle of the dessert and is designed as place to view celestial events, such as stars, the moon, and the sky.
