MIA vs. NY TIMES Journalist
They say the bad press is really good press. Malcom Mclaren said Cash from Chaos. This article (click here) is pretty incredible and makes some pretty grandoise assumptions. Check out her rebuttal here. Who's telling the truth? Does truth matter? Either way her record sales go up and so does the attention to the NY times and the journalist. It's a win-win situation.

It is Happening
"These days, though, the local scenes become their own little echo chambers. The people making music in all these localities seem to be making music for their friends, for kids on their block, for their Twitter followers. None of them is actively disparaging the idea of commercial success-- this isn't crust-punk or something-- but it's also not like circa-05 Houston, with everyone expecting a big contract and burnishing off rough edges accordingly. Now that major labels are barely bothering to release rap albums anymore, you have to dig to find this stuff. But if you do bother to dig, there's plenty of gold out there-- maybe more than ever before."

Immortal Technique
I recently picked up a fantastic album called Revolutionary vol. 2. I'm floored. This man has so much heart and passion. His rhymes are hard as hell and they are far from the typical gangsta coke rap that seems to be all the rage. Check out these two tracks.
