Kevin Lyons
Another Fantastic Artist. Real simple, real impossible to duplicate. Kevin Lyons has been around for a bit. He's designed for just about all the big names like Stussy, Beams, Urban Outfitters, Nike, etc. A lot of his work focuses on hand letter type. I first saw his work when he art directed an issue of Tokion years back. Maybe two years he had some show in LA where he wrote in white pen on black. Real Real Nice. Check out this selection from his page Natural Born

The World and Its Increasing Problems
The world is getting hotter, and now even hungrier. Fidel Castro said that the use of bio-fuels would cause 3 billion deaths from hunger. He might be right. According to most major online news sources, the price of food is escalating rapidly. First because of the developing middle classes in India and China. And second because of farmers converting their crops into fuel. Europe is also this year going to set targets for growing crops for energy. According to this news report from the Economist, more than 1 billion are living off of less than 1 dollar a day. Another billion are living off of 1-2 dollars a day. And because of the rise in price of crops these people are heading for utter disaster.

Stanley Donwood
In case you didn't know, Mr. Donwood is the designer behind Radiohead. He is showing some works at a gallery in Ginza. The show features some gold prints of artwork used for Thom Yorke's solo album, and some paintings about asthma. Its quite a small show, but definitely worth the visit. For more information, check the tokyo gallery website.

On the Way Home Part 3
Everyday I walk up a small mountain to get home. Since I've moved here, there has been a new train line been under construction. For the 3rd time now my walkway has been changed. Its really inspiring. There are many out of the way streets to get to my house, but luckily the construction company has put concern for those who live on the mountain. Enjoy the view.
Sakura
Cherry Blossoms are one of the perks of being in Japan. They only last for about 2 weeks. And for only a few days they fall from the trees and look like snow. They are amazing. Many people come out with their cameras and drawing pads to record the scene. This year I saw a middle-aged man taking pictures with his hello-kitty stuffed toy.

Blek Le Rat
"As an artist I do not think that we truly invent anything at this point. For me it is more about focusing on a memory that I may have had, than actually inventing anything. People recreate what they have seen but with their own vision. I do not believe in the painter who says I invent this or that. It does not exist anymore. It is just how you do it that makes it different than others. I can say I have taken inspiration from many places in my life. "
"This life is fucking important so do not waste yours on bullshit."

I love this woman's songs. I highly recommend her. Tokion magazine has posted a special mix of songs she choose on their blog.
check it out.
Tokion El Perro Del Mar mix
and watch this rad video
And her new album comes out soon
Deanne Cheuk
I first saw Deanne's work from the pages of TOKION, which at the time was very original and quite clever in its themed issues. Her type fonts stood out above anything else in any magazine at that time. I say at that time because now we can see the use of handmade and next level fonts almost everywhere in magazines and t-shirts. She is definitely a pioneer of typography and a great artist. She originally came from Perth, Australia and worked with Legendary David Carson in New York and then Art directed for TOKION. I have no idea what exactly she's doing now, but i'd like to see. Anyway
check out this video interview.
